"It is not only a sin to kill a mockingbird, it is also a crime. " Judge Caproni.
A US district court judge ruled that the current administration's attempt to dilute the Migratory Bird Treaty Act was unlawful. The current administration had attempted to rollback protections under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act by refraining from prosecuting companies that incurred environmental damage that killed birds by "accident." All they had to do was prove they didn't intentionally kill a bird. For over 100 years this law has at least provided incentive for companies to avoid needless destruction of birds. This rollback would have given a green light to environmental damage that would have resulted in millions and millions of murdered birds. By "accident." Oil waste pits, power lines, communication towers. etc etc. Our bird population has dropped over 30% in only fifty years due to environmental negligence. Over 2/3s of our bird population is at risk of extinction. This legislation is critical for our bird population. The bird population is critical to our ecosystem and our way of life. Can we imagine a world without birds? No birdsong? No swallows to eat mosquitoes? No jays or robins or grackles to eat worms? And what about fruit and distribution of seeds? Thank you Judge Valerie Caproni. For saving all of us from cruel, needless destruction of life. Click on the picture below for more about this ruling.
